Happy Canada Day

Well Happy Canada Day!

I think this is the first Canada Day I've spent out of Canada. I am still at ALA in Anaheim. My friends are all on the beach on Lake Erie at the cottage raising the flag right now - noon ET and singing the national anthem. Our tradition is that the youngest kid there raises the flag.

O Canada!

It's also my Dad's birthday - Happy birthday Dad.

Anyway, I am looking forward to visiting Yukon tomorrow since I've never been there before. That'll be my Canuck celebration of Canada for 2008.

Hi Stephen,
It's nice to see a picture of you and your daughter. When I met you at PALA last November, it was clear to me that you were quite proud of all your family. Lovely photo.

I also wanted to write and thank you for a few things:
1) You're conversation w/ me last Nov, kicked me on to grad school, Pitt's MLIS program.
2) I'm enthralled w/ all that is on the web. I never really spent anytime websurfing. BUT w/ the Pitt classes I've been introduced to: the Berkman Center, OII, MIT & Stanford's OpenCourseWare (to name but 2), Zittrain, David Clark, Benkler, Lessig, Shirky, Wales, et al. I'm sold. Frankly, I wonder about the future of TV! The web is way too engaging, tempting the "cognitive surplus" that Shirky refers to.
3) AND SirsiDynix course offerings too! It's all a bit overwhelming, but thanks, what a treasure trove! Today I listened to your 11/1//05 talk about 'Google & Libraries.' Excellent points. I see I have quite a few lectures to catch up on. :) I love Pat Wagner. I've had the good fortune to attend a couple of her workshops. I look forward to listening to her presentations as well.
Many thanks.
Wishing you and your family a great summer,
Sincerely,
