The New Turks
The latest issue of University Affairs (Canada) has profiles of "The New Librarians" which publishes very positive interviews with some of the leading lights in academic library changes in Canada. They could have included more and leave themselves open to criticism for not includinig any women librray directors, but it's still a great article aimed at a non-librarian audience. I am proud to say I know all of these folks.

The new librarians
by Tim Johnson
"Meet the risk-taking scholars who are shaking things up while they build tomorrow’s academic library"
"A new class of librarians is emerging: forward-thinking men and women, attuned to the revolutionary trends affecting academic libraries, are leading the charge for change. These tech-savvy librarians are plugged into the needs of a new generation and adapting their services to keep libraries relevant and valuable."
"We can’t expect to be successful only by doing the same things that we’ve been doing for 35, 40, 50 years. In order to be successful, we have to do things differently. We have to be innovative. We have to take risks."
Highlighted are:
Jeff Trzeciak McMaster U
Mark Leggott UPEI
Mike Ridley U of Guelph
Dean Guistini UBC
Tim Marks CARL
Gloria Leckie CAIS
"Librarians need to be seen to be part of this revolution. And if you don’t want to stay in the profession because of it, there are lots of young, fresh, smart librarians who will take your place."
Cool. We need to get more library visions in front of new audiences.
