Holiday Trivia Strategy
OK, I don't tend to be very good at sports stuff. And over the holidays it seems to be a topic of many cocktail conversations. Anyway, here's my trivia soundbite for this year:
"In major league sports (Major League Baseball, Football (NFL & Canadian FL), Hockey (NHL) and Basketball (NBA)) there are only 8 teams whose names do not end in the letter 'S'. What are they?"
Even the most fanatical of sports fans have trouble getting all 8.

Without looking at the answers, here are some I can think of: Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox (both MLB). Obviously, I'm not a "most fanatical of sports fans!"

One might make the case that the CFL has a contender with the Edmonton Eskimo.

We have a slightly better result in Australia 10 teams in our 7 biggest competitions.
Football - Port Adelaide Power (from 16 teams)
Soccer - Adelaide United, Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory, Queensland Roar, Sydney FC, Wellington Phoenix (From 8 teams)
Cricket - 0 of 6 teams
Basketball - Gold Coast Blaze (from 13 teams)
Rugby League - Melbourne Storm (from 16 teams)
Rugby Union - Western Force (from 14 teams)

The question as written makes the unfortunate assumption that all professional sports leagues are male. In the WNBA, no fewer than 8 of its 13 teams have names that do not end in an S:
Chicago Sky
Connecticut Sun
Detroit Shock
Indiana Fever
New York Liberty
Minnesota Lynx
Phoenix Mercury
Seattle Storm
